Coolskatekid artwork
I'm Gary Potter, also known as CoolSkateKid, a visual artist creating colourful, playful and alternative artwork inspired by cats, skateboarding, music and popular culture.
My work brings together punk, emo, goth, rock and comic influences, with a focus on expressive characters, bold ideas and plenty of personality. I enjoy experimenting with different styles and techniques to turn my ideas into unique pieces of art.
Cats are a particular favourite subject of mine, alongside characters and scenes inspired by the alternative culture and music I enjoy.
My portfolio includes hand-drawn artwork as well as digitally developed and modified pieces. I'm continually creating new work and looking for new ways to share my art with people around the world.
Prints and selected artwork are available through my online shop.
Artist statement
My art is about individuality, imagination and having fun with creativity. I create colourful, expressive artwork inspired by cats, skateboarding, music and alternative culture.
My style brings together influences from punk, emo, goth, rock and comics, creating characters and images with attitude, humour and personality. I enjoy experimenting with colour, line, texture and different visual styles rather than restricting myself to one particular way of working.
A large part of my portfolio comes from hand-drawn artwork, where I can let the lines and ideas develop naturally. I also enjoy digitally developing and modifying artwork to explore new possibilities and create something different from the original.
Cats appear throughout my work because I love their personalities and the character they naturally bring to an image. Whether I'm drawing a character, an animal or a completely imagined scene, I want the finished piece to feel energetic, distinctive and unmistakably mine.
My aim is simple: to create art that makes people stop, look twice and hopefully smile.
